Description	:	Carl Zuege, an aged and respected citizen of Cheyenne county, Kansas, died at his home near Haigler, Nebraska, Monday evening, January 25, 1937. Read More	Carl Zuege, an aged and respected citizen of Cheyenne county, Kansas, died at his home near Haigler, Nebraska, Monday evening, January 25, 1937. He was born in Germany, August 24, 1856; having thus reached the ripe old age of 80 years, 5 months, and one day. In the land of his birth he also received the Sacrament of Holy Baptism and as a boy was instructed in the Word of God and confirmed in the Lutheran church of which he was a life time member. In 1884 Mr. Zuege, at an age where he had already completed his full time military service in the German army, came to this country. In 1885 we find him in Lancaster County, Nebraska. It was here in this same year that he entered into the estate of holy matrimony with Wilhelmina Augusta Lemke. To this union eleven children were born, one of whom died when around two years of age. The other ten children all grew to manhood and womanhood, and survived his departure. It pleased also the Allwise God to call unto himself the mother of these children in the year 1911. The surviving children are: William Zuege, Haigler, Nebraska; Mrs. Greta Mumme, Otis, Colorado; Mrs. Anna Wall, Haigler, Nebraska; Kune Zuege, Otis, Colorado; George Zuege, Haigler, Nebraska; Fred Zuege, Haigler, Nebraska; Mrs. Mary Gemelich, Otis, Colorado; Mrs Lizzie Volgardsen, Ellensburg, Washington; Mrs. Ellen Bodamer, Ellensburg, Washington; and Paul Zuege, Haigler, Nebraska. In 1885 Mr. Zuege took out a homestead in Cheyenne county, Kansas, Nutty Combe township. In 1886 he and Mrs. Zuege built their first home on the homestead; and it was there that Mr. Zuege lived the rest of his life being a prosperous farmer and stockman. In 1918 Mr. Zuege married Miss Bertha Beyer. She mourns the loss of a faithful husband. He is also survived by one brother, Wilhelm Zuege, Haigler, Nebraska; two sisters living in Minnesota, 27 grand children and six greta grand children; also many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon. Rev. A. L. Hoemann, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran church, of which the deceased was a member, had charge of the funeral services. Interment was made in the Higler cemetery. Many friends gathered at his funeral to pay respects to their old neighbor. The Haigler News (Haigler, NE) 5 Feb 1937, Friday Page 8
