ANDERSEN Carl Christian Andersen, 56, died at the Mercy Hospital in Valley City last week Wednesday, May 5, 1943, at 11:10 a.m. While he had been in poor health for the past few years with hardening of the arteries and a resultant heart ailment, his death came as a shock to his family friends. He was 56 years, 6 months and 5 days old when the end came. Carl Andersen was born in Ronne, Denmark on October 15, 1886 and continued to live in his native country until he was 34 years old. On June 24, 1910 at the age of 24 years, he was united in marriage to Anna Holm, to which union seven children were born, four of them in Denmark. In 1920 the family came to the United States. Carl's brother, Andrew, was living here at the time and so the family came directly to the Litchville country, and this has been their home ever since. For many years Mr. Andersen farmed the old Roger's place two miles west of town, and that was his home until his death. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the First Lutheran Church of Litchville, with the Rev. J. E. Lee officiating. Special songs in duet arrangements were sung by Mrs. B. Christianson and Miss Gertrude Monson with Miss Marlys Haarsager as piano accompanist. Beautiful floral offerings and gifts to charitable organizations bore fine testimony of the esteem of family and friends. Minius Anderson, Hans Andreasen, Jens Jensen, Hans Justesen, Alfred Knutson and John Larsen served as pallbearers, and the remains were laid to rest in the Bethlehem Cemetery west of town. Deceased is survived by his wife, three sons and four daughters, namely: Pvt. Knute Andersen, of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO; Pvt. Paul Andersen of Camp Atterbury, IN; Kenneth, at home; Mrs. George Gudmestad (Carla), Litchville; Mrs. Herman Vaders (Ulla), Litchville; Mildred and Delores at home; eight grand children, and one brother, Andrew, of Pine City, MN. As far as is known, his father is also still living, though nothing has been heard from him since shortly after the invasion of Denmark by Germany. His mother and sister preceded him in death.
