Description	:	Carl Christian (Jorgensen) Johnson was born 20 July 1896 in Audubon County, Iowa, the first child born to Frederick C. and Marie Jensen (Jorgensen) Johnson. He died at the Friendship Home in Audubon on 14 August, 1983, at the age of 87 years and 24 days. Carl was baptized as "Carl Christian Jorgensen" at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Audubon County. He grew up on... Read More	Carl Christian (Jorgensen) Johnson was born 20 July 1896 in Audubon County, Iowa, the first child born to Frederick C. and Marie Jensen (Jorgensen) Johnson. He died at the Friendship Home in Audubon on 14 August, 1983, at the age of 87 years and 24 days. Carl was baptized as "Carl Christian Jorgensen" at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Audubon County. At sometime after 1905, his father had their surname changed from Jorgensen to Johnson, as there were many with the last name of Jorgensen in the area and not many with the last name Johnson. He grew up on his parents' farm 1 mile north and 1/2 mile south of Ebenezer Church in Douglas Township, Audubon County. Both parents are buried in the Ebenezer Cemetery. Carl was also confirmed at Ebenezer Church and attended Audubon County Schools. On 30 August, 1920, he married Mattie Rasmussen. They farmed west of Audubon for several years and near Exira for 41 years. He was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. They retired into Audubon in 1980. Preceding him in death were his parents, two infant brothers, and his son-in-law, Lester Welna. Suvivors include his wife Mattie, his children 7 their spouses: Irene and Victor Schmidt, Ruby Welna, Helen and Thayer Smith, and Franklin and Norma Johnson, 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and his two sisters: Francis Miller and Ethel Nelson. Funeral services were on Tuesday, 16 August 1983 at the Exira Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.
