Description	:	DEXTER, Carl E., DDS, FICD, FACD - Passed away at home on Thursday, June 7, 2007, at 82 years of age. Born in 1925 in Halifax, he was a son of the late Vincent and Irva Dexter. Following graduation from Queen Elizabeth High School, he attended Dalhousie University, graduating in Dentistry in 1949, and along with his twin brother, Earl, set up a practice at the Rotary. He... Read More	DEXTER, Carl E., DDS, FICD, FACD - Passed away at home on Thursday, June 7, 2007, at 82 years of age. Born in 1925 in Halifax, he was a son of the late Vincent and Irva Dexter. Following graduation from Queen Elizabeth High School, he attended Dalhousie University, graduating in Dentistry in 1949, and along with his twin brother, Earl, set up a practice at the Rotary. Carl retired in 1997 and throughout that time served the profession on many boards and committees as well as president both locally and provincially, and representing Nova Scotia on the National Board. He taught part-time at the Dental School for 18 years, and served on the Dalhousie Alumni Board and the Board of Governors of Dalhousie. He was a Fellow of the International College of Dentists serving a term as Regent of the Canadian Section, and of the American College of Dentists and was a member of the Academy of Dentists. For more than 50 years he was active in the Kiwanis Club of Armdale-Halifax, serving on many committees, including Bulletin Editor and President. A Baptist throughout his life, first at Central Baptist for 20 years then at First Baptist, where he taught Sunday school for over 40 years, serving on many committees and boards as well as deacon. Time spent with his family was most important to him... the special times were those sailing in and around Halifax and St. Margarets and Mahone Bays. The love of sailing was passed on to his children. For a number of years he enjoyed golf and was a member of Ashburn Golf Club until it conflicted with sailing. He also had memberships in Armdale Yacht Club, and Waegwoltic and The Saraguay Clubs. Carl had a particular passion for teaching and mentoring, whether it was in his profession at the dental chair or with his Sunday school class and had received many honours from Dalhousie and Kiwanis, as well, the Queen's Jubilee Medal. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean (Collins); sons, Robert (Deanna Skinner), Timothy (Brenda); daughters, Ann (Geoffrey) Say, Carol (Angus) Buchanan; daughter-in-law, Jane Dexter. He was predeceased by his infant son, Bruce, and brothers, Reid Paul and Earl. Memorial service was held 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church, Oxford Street, Halifax, Rev. John Boyd officiating.
