Description	:	Montezuma Republican December 24, 1959 Accidental discharge of a shotgun Monday morning claimed the life of Carl Sheeler, 67, a longtime resident of Montezuma. Sheeler was cleaning out a small attic in the home from which he had moved only the day before. The shotgun was in the attic and it was speculated that the gun was discharged accidentally while he was working in the cramped quarters of the attic. Read More	Montezuma Republican December 24, 1959 Accidental discharge of a shotgun Monday morning claimed the life of Carl Sheeler, 67, a longtime resident of Montezuma. Sheeler was cleaning out a small attic in the home from which he had moved only the day before. The shotgun was in the attic and it was speculated that the gun was discharged accidentally while he was working in the cramped quarters of the attic. Mr. and Mrs. Sheeler had recently sold the house and were planning on departing on a trip to Florida this week. He had gone back to the house that morning to pick up a few items left behind in moving. He had been employed by the Montezuma Mutual Telephone Co., until his retirement about two years ago. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at Montezuma. Interment was in Jackson Township Cemetery. Survivors include his widow, the former Hazel McFarlin; one son, Alvin, of Grinnell; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Wasson of Montezuma and Mrs. Alene Keefe of Arlington, Va.; and two brothers, Leo of Grinnell and Leonard of Newton.
