Description	:	Carl Holste, 57, of Afton, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 27, 2012 at the St. Peters United Church of Christ, south of Massena. Pastor James Hansen will officiate. Burial will be at the Victoria Cemetery of Massena. Carl Erwin Holste, son of Erwin Edward Holste and Marietta (Miller) Holste, was born on September 21, 1954 in Corning, Iowa. He went to grade school in Bridgewater and graduated from Bridgewater-Fontanelle High School in 1972. He served in the United States Army, and later in the Air Force, working and studying in telecommunication, before his discharge in April of 1975. In September of 1974, Carl married Joyce Worline in Ohio. They later divorced. Carl work for a year with the Bridgewater Feed Store, before working with the Contel Telephone Company in Chariton. He later moved to Afton. On August 16, 1997, Carl married Carol Jones in Afton, Iowa. Carl continued to work for the phone company for 32 years until his recent failing health. Carl enjoyed spending time with his family and friends doing things outdoors, but most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren. Carl is survived by his wife, Carol Holste of Afton; his daughter, Ann Gray (husband Mike of Bull Shoals, Arkansas; his son, Jeremy Holste of Round Rock, Texas; and daughter, Amanda (husband Jason) Hansen of Creston; three grandsons, Nathan and Joseph Gray and Maddox Hansen; his mother, Marietta Holste of Bridgewater; four step-children, Christine (husband Jeff) Neely of Arispe, Jeanette Yarrington (fiance Stephan Morrell) of Afton, Timothy (wife Jessica) Jones of Slidell, Louisiana, Ricky Jones (fiancé Deena Morales) of Lenox; 21 step-grandchildren, Amber (husband Derek) Fluckey, Jamie, Aaron, Emily, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Andrew, Zackary, Sonya, Casey, Kyle, Destiny, Isaiah, Jazmyn, McKenzie, Gage, Corbin, Ashlee, Cecil, Dustin, and Blake; five brothers, Clifford (wife Lil) Holste of Minden, Clyde (wife Sumiko) Holste of Austin, Minnesota, Clarence (wife Gayle) Holste of Massena, Cecil (wife Penny) Holste of West Menister, Colorado, Curtis (wife Jayne) Holste of Atlantic; three sisters, Coretta (husband Kenneth) Andersen of Treynor, Carol (husband Ronald) Gilbert of Maidens, Virginia, and Colleen (husband Fred) Meyers of Vero Beach, Florida; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his father, Erwin and his grandparents, and a brother-in-law, Richard Hansen.
