Description	:	Carl Fredrick Rethwisch was born November 1, 1867 at Burg of Faeman, Schleswig, Germany. In the year 1884 he came to the United States and direct to Walnut, Iowa, where he lived until his death on Tuesday morning, Oct. 4, 1938, at the age of 70 years, 11 months and 3 days. Read More	Carl Fredrick Rethwisch was born November 1, 1867 at Burg of Faeman, Schleswig, Germany. In the year 1884 he came to the United States and direct to Walnut, Iowa, where he lived until his death on Tuesday morning, Oct. 4, 1938, at the age of 70 years, 11 months and 3 days. On Feb. 14, 1890 he was united in marriage to Miss Paulena Voss. To this union eight children were born, three of whom died in infancy. Mr. Rethwisch was occupied with farming until the year 1916, when with his family he moved to town. Here he worked in a hardware store until May 12 of 1938 when he took sick and went to a hospital for treatment. After six weeks he came home to gradually lose strength and finally pass on. He leaves in mourning his faithful wife; five children, Ben Rethwisch of Oakdale, Neb., Mrs. Walter Anderson and Carl Rethwisch Jr. of Portland, Ore., John Rethwisch and Mrs. Harvey Jensen of Walnut; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Theodore of Tilden, Neb.; four sisters, Mrs. Paul Christiansen of Tilden, Neb., Mrs. Jurgen Frohm of Shelby, Mrs. Bernard Jacobsen of Hancock, and Miss Agnes Rethwisch of Walnut, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, the Rev. Wm. Krummel officiating. Mrs. Joe Bigelow and Mrs. Wm. Krummel sang "What a Friend" and "Take Thou My Hand and Lead Me." Interment was in the Walnut Cemetery. Mr. Rethwisch had requested that the following serve as pallbearers: John Matthies, Sr., Chris Schroeder, Ferdinand Rasmussen, Hans Thiessen, and two members from the A.O.U.W.
