Description	:	Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” Thursday, October 31, 1963: Carl Gardner Carl Gardner, 65, of Ottumwa Route 7 died at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday at Ottumwa Hospital following an illness of two months. A retired coal miner, he was the son of Perry and Sarah Russell Gardner and was born at Douds May 14, 1898. He had been a resident of Wapello County for the past 14 years. His marriage to Sarah J. Sines took place Sept. 1, 1923, in Centerville. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Carl Gardner Jr., of Ottumwa, and Sp. 5 Robert D. Gardner of Leavenworth, Kan.; one daughter, Mrs. Edna Taylor of Selma; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were three brothers and two sisters. The service will be Friday at 3 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Walter Gerggren of the Wildwood Evangelical Free Church. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
