Description	:	KAUFMAN, Carl Carl George Kaufman, the son of Otto and Anna Margaret (Von Bergen) Kaufman, was born December 25, 1905, in rural Adams County, near Mt. Etna, Iowa. Otto, his father died in 1908. In 1909, his mother married Frederick David Kerkmann. The family moved to a farm northwest of Massena in 1910. Read More	KAUFMAN, Carl Carl George Kaufman, the son of Otto and Anna Margaret (Von Bergen) Kaufman, was born December 25, 1905, in rural Adams County, near Mt. Etna, Iowa. Otto, his father died in 1908. In 1909, his mother married Frederick David Kerkmann. The family moved to a farm northwest of Massena in 1910. He spent his early years in the Massena area and attended rural school. Carl and his brother, Herman, worked in the steel mill at Gary, Indiana. He met Kathryn Verna Mathis, and they were united in marriage on July 9, 1927. Kathryn was born May 17, 1908 at McCurtain, O:klahoma, the daughter of Pete and Rose Mathis. She grew to womanhood in Okahoma and in 1924 went to Gary, Indiana, where she had employment. Kathryn died on February 2, 1963. In 1934, the family moved from Gary, Indiana, to a farm norhtwest of Massena. Carl worked for the local telephone companies for sixteen years. Then he worked seven years for Massena Pelgas until he retired in 1972. Carl lived on the farm until his death on December 2, 1983. A son, Harold Carl, was born August 20, 1930, in Gary, Indiana. He graduated from Massena High School in 1947. harold received B.S. and M.S. degrees from Iowa State Univerisity at Ames. He married Nancy Ruth Hope in East Lansing, Michigan, on August 27, 1955. They have threee daughters, Deborah Joy (Mrs. Robert Finley), Deanna Kay and Brenda Hope. A daughter, Delores Joan, was born on December 19, 1937. She graduated from Massena High School in 1955 and from Commercial Extension School of Commerce in Omaha, Nebraska. Delores met Carroll Victor Fleming, and they wee united in marriage on May 26, 1962, in Omaha, Nebraska. They have a daughter, Sheila Joy.
