A stroke of paralysis affecting his entire left side was the cause of his death. Mr. Hager, proprietor of the Choteau tailor shop, was about his work as usual Monday, and as was his habit, called on his customers that day soliciting business. That evening at home he ate his usual meal and retired but stated he was not feeling very well. From 1:30 a.m on until the stroke occurred at 3:30 he suffered considerably but insisted that no doctor be sent for. Dr. H.W. Bateman was summoned when the stricken man became critical. Mr. Hager had suffered two previous slight paralytic strokes and his heart was known to be weak. For the past month or two he had not been in good health, suffering from intestinal and stomach disorder, and this is thought to have hastened the end. The deceased was born Oct. 13, 1887, at Undorf, Austria. At the early age of 12 years he was apprenticed to a tailor, and at 15 he was a graduate apprentice. At 16 he migrated to America, landing in New York. He followed his trade and became an excellent coat maker and as such traveled in many of the larger cities in the east. He was also in business in Troy, N.Y., and in Brooklyn and other places. At Troy, in 1909, he was united in marriage to Miss Theresia Dich, a native of Hungary. He came west in 1918 and moved his family to Dayton, Wash., where he was engaged in the tailoring business. In the fall of 1924, he came to Shelby and was one of the proprietors of the Oil City Tailor shop, which branched out in the Conrad territory. Disposing of his business in Conrad in 1932, he obtained a lease on the Choteau Tailor shop from Mrs. C.H. Swain, and a short time ago bought the business after her death. Last December he moved his family to Choteau from Conrad. Survivors besides his widow are five children, Carl, Jr., Fred, Edward, Arthur, and Madeline; a brother, Joseph, lives in Troy, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. Joseph Steinberger, at Dayton, Wash.; and another sister in Austria. Funeral services will be held here tomorrow at 10 o'clock from the Catholic church. Interment will be made in Choteau cemetery.
