Description	:	US Air Force∼Carl was the second youngest of 4 sons born to his father and mother. His father, Carl Hegwer Sr., was a German immigrant whose family arrived at Ellis Island , NY around 1915. His mother, Maggie Quick Hegwer, passed away when he was only 3 years old. Carl spent most of his life in Laurinburg, NC where he graduated from Scotland High School around 1950. His mother, Maggie Quick Hegwer, passed away when he was only 3 years old. Carl spent most of his life in Laurinburg, NC where he graduated from Scotland High School around 1950. Following graduation, he joined the United States Air Force for a term of 4 years as part of the Air Rescue Service that conducted search missions overseas during the Korean War. Upon returning from his time of service to our country, he attended and graduated from King's Business College in Charlotte, NC. Carl worked at a furniture manufacturing company called Daystrom when he met, and married Irene Ray Hegwer of Laurel Hill, NC on March 22, 1958. They were blessed with three sons: Randall (1960), Kenneth (1965), and Phillip [Hal] (1967). Carl briefly worked in the office at Waverly Mills and in 1961, he began employment as the Director of the City of Laurinburg Water and Wastewater plants. His duties included the monitoring, compiling, and reporting of temperatures, rainfalls, and occasional snows in the area. As Director, he was in charge of the water plant and two wastewater treatment plants where his focus was to reduce the organics in the water, control the oxygen level, and clean it up before discharging the water. He retired around 1995 after over 33 years of holding his Director position and over 26 years as the weather observer for Laurinburg, NC for the National Weather Service (Raleigh, NC). Carl loved to pier fish, vacationing in the mountains, his church work as clerk and Sunday School superintendent at Salem Emmanuel Holiness Church, his "honey-do" lists, and spending time with his family. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his youngest brother. He leaves behind his beloved wife of over 42 years: Irene Ray Hegwer; 3 sons: Randall Carl Hegwer (Brenda), Kenneth Lee Hegwer (Michele), and Phillip Hal Hegwer (Angela); 6 grandchildren: Andrew Ryan Hegwer (Beth), Brittney Hegwer Vick (Jake), Courtney Hegwer Reed (Huley), Cayleigh Michele Hegwer, Caroline Gray Hegwer, and Carly Ryan Hegwer; 6 great-grandchildren: Joshua Wayne Reed, Ryan Carl Hegwer, Kenleigh Grace Reed, Owen Arthur Hegwer, Oliver Reynolds Vick, and Brenna Michele Reed; his nephews, nieces, and many friends.
