Read More	From Nevada Evening Journal April 23, 1945 Funeral Services for Carl Edward* Mullen Held on Sunday Funeral services for the late Carl Edward* Mullen, 34, born in Nevada, September 28, 1910, invalid son of Ora O. and Cora McConnell Mullen, now of Des Moines who passed away Friday [April 20, 1945] in a Des Moines hospital, were held from the Hamilton Funeral Home in Des Moines Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock after which committal was in the Nevada cemetery at 4 p.m. The Rev. Carl R. Frankheuser was in charge of the services. Favorite hymns of the deceased were played and sung and the tribute to his life was a beautiful one. The officiating minister call attention to the patience of the young man who had been a shut-in for many years. He spoke of his great love for music and of the inspiration he received in reading the Bible and having his mother read to him. He was a great lover of sports, especially of baseball and "Dutch" Reagan had been his favorite announcer and warm personal friend. His illness covered many year of patient suffering. Uncomplainingly he shouldered his loan and always greeted relatives and friends with a smile. He was always appreciative of the many kindnesses shown him. Carl was an active member of the Shut-in Club. Through correspondence he was in constant touch with members of this group covering many states. When he was first taken ill he was a paper carrier for the Nevada Evening Journal. The family lived for twenty years in or near Nevada. Carl was converted under the pastorate of the Rev. Jackson Ginnens of the Nevada Methodist church. At the time of his death he was a member of the First Evangelical church in Des Moines. Surviving Carl are the parents, his two brothers, Lester of Moline, Ill, and Russell R. Mullen, Petty Officer 1st who is stationed in Arabia, and one sister, Lois A. Guthrie of Kansas City. He is also survived by nine nieces and three nephews. Following the services at the Hamilton Funeral Home, the funeral cortage drove to Nevada for the committal in the Nevada cemetery where a brief prayer service was in charge of Rev. Frankheuser. Members of the family attending the committal were Mr. and Mrs. Ora Mullen, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Mullen, Mrs. Russell Mullen and sister, Mrs. Lois Guthrie and Bertha Tallman. Following the committal the family group assembled at the Mrs. Cora McConnell home, 1005 First street, where lunch was served and Nevada friends called to express their sympathy to the Mullen family. *SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The deceased was Carl Howard Mullen, not Carl Edward Mullen as stated.
