Carl was the fourth child born to Henry E. Myers and Nellie Wilcox Myers. He was a life-time member of the Panther Creek Church of the Brethren. When Carl was very young, his family moved to California for two years. They then returned to the Panther Creek area where Carl continued to live. On October 27, 1920, in Des Moines, Iowa, Carl was married to Elva Jane Rhodes. Two children were born to this marriage, a daughter, Marcia (Mrs. Lowell E. Marshall) of rural Adel, and a son, Everett, who preceded him in death in June of 1983. Also preceding Carl in death were a granddaughter, LuAnn Myers; his parents; three sisters: Mabel Book, Ruby York, and Ferne Hickey; two brothers: Lee and Bert, all of the Adel area. Surviving him are his wife, Elva; daughter, Marcia; son-in-law, Lowell Marshall; daughter-in-law, Eleanor Button Myers; 3 granddaughters; 4 grandsons; 13 great-grandchildren; on sister-in-law; 2 brothers-in-law; and 10 nieces and nephews. Carl and Elva farmed in Colfax Township until their retirement, except for 2 years soon after their marriage when they resided on a farm near Waukee, Iowa. They retired from farming 1973 and moved to a new home on South 11th Street in Adel, living there until February of 1988 when they moved to Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, Iowa. Carl received his formal education in a one-room country schoolhouse in Washington Township. He became a successful farmer and livestock feed learning always from experience. Carl's life touched many people and many communities. In addition to his love for family, he enjoyed visiting shut-ins, going on fishing trips, buying and selling livestock, and spending his winters in Arizona. He was "grandpa" to all the children on South 11th Street in Adel, as well as to his own grandchildren. His church, family, and host of friends were his most valued treasurers and he will be missed by all.
