Carl Kenneth Ritenour, 69, of Iroquois, South Dakota went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral was at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 8th, at Mt. Olivet Church in Huron with Rev. David Erdman officiating. Burial was at Mt. Olivet Church Cemetery.
Carl was born January 5, 1941, to Lorel (Bill) and Eunice Ritenour at Mullen, Nebraska. Carl was born January 5, 1941, to Lorel (Bill) and Eunice Ritenour at Mullen, Nebraska. Carl graduated from Mullen High School in 1959 and graduated from Huron College in 1965 earning All-Conference Honors in Football. He received a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling and completed postgraduate work in Educational Administration. He served in the Army National Guard from 1960 to 1966.
Carl married Kathleen (Kathy) Tschetter on October 19, 1962, at Mt. Olivet Church. Carl and Kathy have three children, Carlen, Keith, and Colleen.
He taught school at Clyde Township, Cavour, Wessington, and was a guidance counselor at Miller. He became a college counselor and instructor at USD/Springfield and transitioned into the position of Director of Guidance Services for the state of South Dakota until July 1, 1983. Carl was the Superintendent of Sunshine Bible Academy from 1983 to 1988, he also served as the Superintendent of Rock County Christian Schools, Janesville, Wisconsin, from 1988 to 1996; and Nebraska Christian Schools, Central City, Nebraska, from 1996 to 2000. He retired in the summer of 2000 and moved to Cavour, South Dakota, and in 2003 moved to a farm southeast of Cavour, where he resided until his death.
Carl was a member of Mt. Olivet Church and served as an elder. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, and farming.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Kathy; three children, Carlen (Christel) of Fairbanks, Alaska and their two children, Ashley and Colten, Keith (Holly) of San Antonio, Texas and their two children, Alexandra and Jamilyn, and Colleen Grace of Grand Junction, Colorado and her three children, Cheyenne, William, and Sheridan; his mother, Eunice Ritenour of Mullen, Nebraska; two sisters, Pat (John) Looby of Hartford, South Dakota, and Dixie (Stan) Thorson of Hayes, South Dakota; one brother, Jim Ritenour of Mullen, Nebraska; and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, who passed away on October 5, 1995, and his grandparents. |
