In early infancy he was baptized into the Lutheran Faith, and the influence of a good Christian belief and religious priorities engendered a conscious faith in his Savior. At the age of 14 he confessed his faith in his Savior, at confirmation, and pledged himself to remain faithful and loyal to his Lord and Church, a promise to which he remained loyal until his end. On December 13, 1878, he was united in marriage with Miss Ernestina Schwandt of Brandenburg Germany. This union lasted over fifty years, until the death of his wife, who preceded him almost three years ago. His children came to bless their home, of whom one, a son, died in infancy. Three or four years after their marriage the Brandenburgs left the land of their births and came to America, coming first to Greene and then moving to a farm west of Marble Rock, which became the family home for many years. The brandenburgs were one of the pioneer families in this part of the country and had to endure the many hardships and inconveniences which confronted the early settlers. It was through their diligence and faithfulness that they were able to lay the foundation of their progress and success. Those who had the privilege of making the acquaintance of Mr. Brandenburg will remember him as a good neighbor, a loyal citizen and a trustworthy gentleman. His household will always remember him for his simple, honorable piety and his adherence to the principles of Christian Faith. They will greatly acknowledge that his ward and example have helped direct their life's course and wholesome influence that proceeded from him are beyond measure and will continue after his departure. May we remember him as an instrument of God for accomplishing a divine purpose. May we not unduly sorrow over his passing away, but rejoice that God has granted him a portion with His saints. Mr. Brandenburg always enjoyed good health until the last few years when the weakness of age became steadfast. Since the death of his wife he had made his home with his daughters at Nora Springs, who faithfully cared for his every need. Last Saturday, while attending to his normal duties about the house, he contracted a slight cold, which later developed into a form of pneumonia. During the next few days his condition steadily became worse and his strength began to fail. Submitting to the will of his Heavenly Father, and trusting in the merits of His Savior, he quietly and peacefully fell asleep on Wednesday morning, March 2, at 5 o'clock, having attained the age of 75 years, 11 months and 2 days. He leaves to mourn his departure a brother, Will, and a sister; Mrs. Amelia Ahart of Lane, South Dakota; five daughters, all living within this vicinity; Mrs. Amelia Stingby; Mrs. Minnie Willert; Mrs. Helena Knoop; Mrs. Leona Thiele; and Mrs. Meta Boone, nine grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. The funeral was held from the Lutheran Church in Rockford Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., being conducted by Rev. Bredow. Mrs. Henry Beckmann of Nora Springs sang. Interment was in the Rockford Cemetery. Those who attended the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Gus Harveyand son and Mrs. Ida Heft of Charles City, Mr. and Mrs. F. J Thiele and Mr. and Mrs. Ross Boone of Nora Springs.
