Homan, 89, formerly of Alton, Iowa, peacefully passed away Sunday, May 18, 2008 at the Veterans Administration Care Facility in Knoxville, Iowa, surrounded by his family. Carl was born November 10, 1918 in Alton, to the late Joseph and Mary (Schroeder) Homan. He attended Pasadena (CA) Community College before entering the U. S. Army in 1943. Homan, 89, formerly of Alton, Iowa, peacefully passed away Sunday, May 18, 2008 at the Veterans Administration Care Facility in Knoxville, Iowa, surrounded by his family. Carl was born November 10, 1918 in Alton, to the late Joseph and Mary (Schroeder) Homan. He attended Pasadena (CA) Community College before entering the U. S. Army in 1943. He served as a second lieutenant bombardier in a B-17 bomber, which flew 24 missions over Germany during World War II. On February 14, 1943, he married Jean Marie Henrich in Alton. She preceded him in death in April, 1976. He owned a sheep farm in the Alton area for many years. Following his retirement, he moved to Tucson, Arizona, where he continued to enjoy his interest in golf. He married Sue (Bindner) Van Wyck of San Bernardino, California in December of 1978. They moved from Tucson to San Bernardino until July 2006, when he moved to Indianola, Iowa. He was a member of the Alton town council for several years and was instrumental in securing municipal power and electric utilities for the town. He also was an active member of St. Mary's Parish and the Alton Country Club. He is survived by his children, Carla, (Don) Schaper of Boulder, Colorado, Michael S. (Jan Goergen) Homan of Spencer, Iowa, Thomas O. (Diane Helmick ) Homan of Indianola, Iowa, Nancy Reiken of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and David C. (Cathy Padgett) Homan of Okemos, Michigan; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Leonard and Jerry Homan; and a sister, Annamarie (Homan) Marshall.
