Read More	Dies From His Injuries - Carl Sonderup Fails to Recover from the Effects of an Accident - Carl Sonderup, the young man whose injuries were reported in last week's paper, died at his home eight miles north of St. Paul at about 2 o'clock Saturday morning. From the time he was thrown by a horse on Wednesday, July 22, until his death, he was unable to speak, although it is believed that up to the last few hours of his life he realized what was going on around him. His father was able to communicate with him by asking him questions and directing that a reply be given by pressure of the hand. In this way his wants were supplied for several days. As reported last week, Carl in company with his brother Walter were driving a herd of cattle about a mile from their home. Carl had rode around a small knoll just before the accident occurred and no one saw him when he fell. For this reason it will never be known just how the fatal injuries were sustained, although it is supposed that the horse stumbled in crossing a shallow ditch and caused him to lose his balance. The horse was a gentle, trustworthy animal which fact adds strength to this theory. Furthermore, it was grazing quietly nearby when the brother rode up a moment later, an indication that it had been neither frightened nor vicious. No marks of violence were found on the body and the medical attendants are undecided as to what was the direct cause of death. At first they believed that a clot of blood had formed on the brain, but subsequent developments failed to confirm this diagnosis. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the family residence, Rev. J. C. Pedersen officiating. Music was supplied by a select choir in the Danish tongue, while the minister's words of comfort, sympathy and hope were spoken in English. Several hundred people were in attendance from all parts of the county, the procession which followed the remains to their last resting place in the St. Paul cemetery being one of the largest ever seen in this section. The casket was covered with floral offerings and after it had been lowered into the grave it was buried from sight by sprigs of evergreen plucked from the trees at the Sonderup home and carried thither by friends who thus paid a final tribute to Carl's memory. Six young men from the neighborhood who were his companions during life acted as pallbearers. Carl O. Sonderup was born in Dwight, Ill., November 1, 1881, being exactly 21 years and 9 months old at the time of his death. He was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Sonderup, three brothers-- Fred J., Walter P., and Hans L. -- surviving. The family removed to Howard county in the spring of 1885 and settled on the homestead where they still reside. They have always been industrious, thrifty people and command great respect from all who know them. Fred and Hans have married and settled on farms adjoining their father's, while Walter and Carl remained at home. For several years past these two boys have had control of the place and have managed it with great ability. Nothing that can now be said will relieve the pain felt by the stricken parents and brothers. Scores of true friends stand ready to do aught within their power to soften the blow, but realize too keenly their own helplessness. Time is the only healer of such cruel wounds. Some day it will not be quite so hard to think of the boy who was taken away in the very prime of youth.
