He was born in Ostergoetland, Linkoping province, Sweden, April 22, 1850, and departed this life after a brief illness at a hospital in York, February 24, 1937, at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 2 days. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Sweden. In 1866 he, together with a brother and a sister, came to America and Andover, Illinois. Later his parents and other brothers and sisters also emigrated to America. Mr Erickson was married to Inga Marie Slatt, March 29, 1879, to (sic) Andover, Illinois, who preceded him in death just ten months ago. To this union were born seven children, two of whom preceded him in death, Theodore at the age of seven months and Arthur at the age of 24 years. In the spring of 1882 Mr Erickson and his wife came to Nebraska living in Clay county (sic) for four years and then 24 years in Nuckolls county (sic), but returned to Clay county (sic) near Edgar in 1906 where he resided until death. At the organization of the Gethsemane Lutheran church (sic) of Edgar, now of Ong, in 1882, Mr Erickson became a charter member and has remained a faithful and devoted member all these 55 years. He has served in church and was deacon of the church until only a few years ago, he was elected honorary member of the board of deacons. Funeral services were held last Friday, after a brief prayer service in the home, at the Gethsemane Lutheran church (sic) at Ong, with the vice pastor, the Rev A. Walfred Anderson, officiating. Mesdames Ernest Nelson and Harry Swanson sang both at the home and at the church. The pallbearers were C. L. Wiberg, Arthur Johnson, Henry Swanson, Anton Thurin, William Black and William Reid. he is survived by the five children, four *ons and one daughter, Henry, Ebburt and Luther of Edgar, Ernest of Grand Island and Mrs Esther Pearson of Shickley; one brother, John Erickson of Oakland, and one sister, Mrs Augusta Holmquist of Lincoln, 18 grandchildren and five great grandchildren with a host of other relatives and friends. Interment was made in the Edgar cemetery. Thus a loving father, brother and friend has gone to rest. May he rest in peace.
