He was a victim of cancer, yet the courageous way in which he lived his last days, bespoke his deep and abiding faith in God. Until the last few months he seldom was absent from services unless he was in a hospital. He had undergone surgery more than once and until the last operation had always rallied in a remarkable way. On May 8 he was taken to the hospital at Tecumseh and it was there he passed away. Carl William Rulla, son of F. John Rulla and Doris Eleanor Rulla nee Hovel, was born July 4, 1905 at Sterling, Nebr. He attended Fairview school in Dist. 77 near his home. He married Rosa Marie Brunner on March 11, 1931, the Rev. H. M. Biedenweg performing the ceremony in the parsonage of South St. Johns Lutheran church. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Rulla; Lorin John, 907 South 14 St., Lincoln; Doris Eleanor, 1618 D St., Lincoln; John Frederick and Anna Elizabeth, at home. Mr. Rulla was baptized on August 6, 1905, and was confirmed on April 10, 1921 by the Rev. E. Schroeder in St. John Lutheran church, Sterling. For a while he held membership in South St. John's Lutheran church and served on the council. He transferred to St. John's in town a number of years ago. He was a faithful member of the church and of the Brotherhood. Mr. Rulla was keenly interested in civic affairs. He served on the school board in Dist. 77, and worked for reorganization of the district. Mr. Rulla spent his entire life on the farm, always in the vicinity of Sterling. He was not only a kind and loving husband and father, but a neighbor who was held in high esteem. Besides his widow and children he leaves three sisters and one brother: Elizabeth Lehman, Golden City, Mo.; Anna Panko, Burr; Fred Rulla, Sterling; Dorothy Haeffner, Golden, Colo. Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and three sisters: John Rulla, Ruth Buss, Augusta Carlson, Esther Noelan, William Rulla and Albert Rulla. Funeral services were held in St. John American Lutheran church at 2:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, with the Rev. A. G. Langholz in charge. Mrs. Harvey Giesmann sang, and Mrs. John Goldenstein was at the organ. Pallbearers were Harry Reutter, Robert Walker, Ben Parde, Alvin Parde, Glen Conkel and Harvey Horstman. Burial was in Sterling cemetery. Deepest sympathy is with the bereaved ones in this hour of sorrow.
