Description	:	Carol Smith Carol Jean Smith, 76, of Ottumwa died at 6:10 a.m. May 31, 2018 at Ridgewood Specialty Care. She was born June 1, 1941 in Ottumwa to Warren and Ferne Hemm Lewis Jr. She married Mickey Dean Smith on June 12, 1982. He preceded her in death on December 30, 2016. Read More	Carol Smith Carol Jean Smith, 76, of Ottumwa died at 6:10 a.m. May 31, 2018 at Ridgewood Specialty Care. She was born June 1, 1941 in Ottumwa to Warren and Ferne Hemm Lewis Jr. She married Mickey Dean Smith on June 12, 1982. He preceded her in death on December 30, 2016. She loved volunteering her time by helping others. She was associated with the National Federation of the Blind in Baltimore, MD and in Des Moines. In addition, Carol was a member of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club and Baptist churches in both Des Moines and Baltimore. Surviving are a brother, Warren A. "Bud" Lewis III of Ottumwa; a sister, Regina E. Farrington of Agency; along with 12 nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles E. Lewis; and a sister, Patricia Farrell. Graveside services and burial will be 2 p.m. Monday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Federation of the Blind or to the family.
