Carol died August 27, 2016 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital. Carol L. Ecker, daughter of Joseph and Lena (Hoffman) Ecker was born May 5, 1924 at Aberdeen. She grew up in the Orient, SD area and graduated from Orient High School with the class of 1942. She attended Beautician school in Sioux Falls and soon returned to Northern Normal College and obtained her Teacher’s Certificate. Carol taught country school at Orient. Carol was united in marriage to Henry Carl Witte on May 28, 1949 at Hot Springs, SD. They made their home on a farm west of Aberdeen. In December of 1951 they purchased a farm three miles north of Frederick where they were general farmers. They semi-retired and moved to Ellendale, ND in 1978. Her husband, Henry, died December 31, 1994. In 1995, Carol moved to Aberdeen. Carol loved the time she spent with her family. She enjoyed gardening when she was younger and butchering chickens was always an event she looked forward too. When relaxing she liked to do crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, word games and play card games. She was a member of Savo Lutheran Church and when her children were still at home she was very active as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent. Grateful for having shared Carol’s life are her three sons, Brian (Karen) Witte of Ottumwa, IA, Lauren (Deborah) Witte of Frederick and Bernie Witte of Green River, WY; two daughters, Gerry (Alex) Peterson of Maple Grove, MN and Jackie (Casey) Kamm of Aberdeen; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and one sister. Honorary Casketbearers will be Carol’s Great-Grandchildren and Great-Great-Grandchildren. Casketbearers will be Carol’s Grandchildren. Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Aberdeen has been entrusted with arrangements.
