Carol Lee Winter was born Nov. 21, 1920 to Asa and Jessie (Perry) Winter at their rural Morristown, SD home. Carol attended eight years at the Sherman Grade school south of Morristown and four years at Morristown High School graduating in 1938. During World War II, she was a welder in the... Read More	Carol Foss Byerly, 85, Lemmon passed away early morning Oct. 28th at West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger. Carol Lee Winter was born Nov. 21, 1920 to Asa and Jessie (Perry) Winter at their rural Morristown, SD home. Carol attended eight years at the Sherman Grade school south of Morristown and four years at Morristown High School graduating in 1938. She then attended Northern State College in Aberdeen for one year, receiving her teaching certificate. She taught rural schools in Perkins and Corson counties for six years. During World War II, she was a welder in the shipyards at Portland, Oregon for two years. On Dec. 20, 1947 she was married to Kenneth Foss. To this union one daughter, Connie Jo was born. Following Kenneth's death on Jan. 22, 1966, she worked as a check out clerk at the Lemmon Co-op Grocery Store and in July of 1968 she began working as the cashier/receptionist for Montana Dakota Utilities Co. in the Lemmon Office. Carol worked there for 17 years, retiring in Nov. of 1985. On March 30, 1989 Carol married Henry Byerly of Stanley, Iowa, and spent the next 14 years there, returning to Lemmon in March of 2003. Carol was a longtime member of the Rosebud Lutheran Church and its Ladies Circle and the White Butte Homemakers Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gayle and daughter Cheryl. Surviving are her daughter; Connie (Maris) Williams of Aberdeen, sons; Larry (Marlys) Foss and Gary (LaVonne) Foss of rural Lemmon, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and many friends in Five Counties Nursing Home and the Lemmon HUD apartments. Funeral services will be Weds, Nov. 1st at the Prince of Peace Chapel of Evanson Jensen Funeral Home Lemmon. Pastor Ken Miller will officiate and interment will be in Greenhill Cemetery.
