Read More	Carol Brodal, 97, of rural Larson, died Friday, May 29, 2015, at the Sunrise Care Center in Crosby. Carol was born Sept. 1, 1917, to Clara and Dick Hatlelid. She grew up in the tightly knit Harmonious Township community where her parents had both homesteaded. She finished her first eight grades at the Budke School, was confirmed at South St. Olaf, and graduated from Noonan High School in 1935. After high school, she studied at the State Teachers College in Minot for her standard teaching certificate. She taught for a time at Battleview and in a one-room school near Noonan, after which she moved back home to help care for her ailing mother. On Dec. 10, 1947, Carol entered into marriage with Sig Brodal of rural Noonan. Working side by side, they raised their family in the farm lifestyle they loved so much. Carol baked countless loaves of bread, canned untold amounts of fruit, vegetables and berries and kept lunch buckets and thermos jugs full to the brim. The ironing board was always up and the sewing machine was always humming. Carol especially enjoyed entertaining friends and neighbors and serving them from the never-ending supply of cookies and buns that filled her freezer. Community involvement was important to Carol whether it was being an active part of a neighborhood support system or teaching Sunday school. In later years, her circle of involvement grew to include the entire state as she worked to promote North Dakota ag products through WIFE (Women Involved in Farm Economics). She treasured her friendships and knew how to keep those connections part of her everyday life. Carol will be most remembered for her role as a mom, grandma, and a great-grandma. Her loving manner, her generosity of spirit and the way she expressed her personal motto of "accentuate the positive" will always be an example toward which her family will strive. The memories she shared of the "Olden Days" were also a gift to her kids as she taught them about the vision, perseverance and laughter it takes to build strong families and communities. For the past nine years, Carol's circle grew to include the caring family at Good Sam/Sunrise Care Center in Crosby. She loved being there and treasured the connections she made with the staff. Carol's life is celebrated by: her daughters, Charlotte of White Shield and Lenore (Larry) of Rock Hill, S.C.; her sons, Lynn (Anne) and Jim (Jen) of Columbus; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews across the country; and her cousin Ken Hatlelid of Eugene, Ore. Carol was preceded in death by: her parents; her brother, Allen; and her husband, Sig. Funeral Services will be: 11 a.m. Friday, June 5, at Faith Lutheran Church in Columbus with Chaplain Myra Osvold officiating. Burial will follow at: South St. Olaf Cemetery in rural Larson.
