Description	:	Powers Funeral Home Carol McGuire, 59, of Thayer, died Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at her home near Thayer. A celebration of life will be held May 20, 2017 from 1-4 p.m. at the Roadside Bar and Grill in Arispe. Private family burial will be at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery, south of Thayer. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be to the Hospice of Central Iowa. Carol Lynn McGuire was born April 2, 1958 in Thayer to Lila Alberta (Beardsley) and Arnim Matthew McGuire. She graduated from East Union High School in 1976 and enlisted in the Air Force, serving stateside and overseas. She returned to her home town to find that she could continue her military career by joining the Iowa Air National Guard. During her career, she was deployed to various countries, which included Kuwait, Quatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and had served as part of Desert Shield. She had touched many lives during her 59 years. Carol never knew a stranger and was happy to help wherever she could. She volunteered to be a reading buddy at the East Union elementary and coached the East Union High School girls' basketball team as her health allowed. She was a favorite among East Union teachers for periodically delivering her famous Oh Henry bars for all to share. She loved all sports, and participated in many throughout the years. She was a diehard St. Louis Cardinal fan. No other baseball team existed in her eyes. Her proudest moments in sports, by far, were sitting in the stands watching her nephew play whichever sport that was in season. She was a wonderful and caring lady and will be greatly missed by both her Iowa and Vermont families and the many friends she had made along her life's adventures. She had mentioned more than once that she had been blessed with doing everything she had set out to accomplish in her life and even though it was cut short, her life was complete.
