Carol Mae Pedersen was born on September 25, 1937 in Brookings, South Dakota the daughter of Jens and Alice (Bullis) Pedersen. Carol received her education in Arlington, SD and was a graduate of the Arlington High School in 1956. She was united in marriage to Vern Carter on June 15, 1956. Carol was employed at various places throughout her life including Kjenslee's Café, Ben Franklin and the Rainbow Café. After Vern entered the United States Military, the y lived in El Paso, TX and Germany. After returning to South Dakota, Carol was employed at J.C. Penney's, Townhouse, Rainbow Café, Coachlight, Red Owl Grocery Store and Brookings Monument. From 1986 until 1995, she was employed at SDSU in the Chemistry Lab as a secretary. Vern died on July 1, 2000 in Brookings, SD. She enjoyed playing cards on the computer or with friends, penny gambling, dancing, camping, fishing and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Carol is survived by her son, Terry G. Carter (Echo South) of Henning, MN; her daughter, Tanya Carter (Bruce Bortnem) Aurora, SD and her grandchildren, Ashley, Jordan, Hayley, Lindsey and Katie. - Rudes Funeral Home
