Carol Maxine Schacht was born May 5, 1954, at Memorial Hospital in Watertown, South Dakota, to Lester E. Schacht and Lois Maxine (Wolcott) Schacht. She was raised on the family farm on the Hamlin/Codington County line south of Watertown. She attended first grade in Thomas before the school was closed and attended Watertown Public Schools thereafter; graduating from Watertown High School in 1972 and the Licensed Practical Nursing program at Lake Area Technical School in 1973. Carol was the night nurse at the Memorial Nursing Home from 1973 to 1986. From 1986 to 2008 she worked for Avail Home Nursing Services of Yakima taking care of critically ill children in their homes. Carol, like her mother, was a natural caregiver and advisor to young and old alike. Many of her friends became extensions of the Schacht/Fordyce family. Carol married David Ross Fordyce on December 26, 1993, at West Valley Missionary Church. Carol delighted in supporting and assisting her Orchardist husband in his business. David delighted in eating the wonderful meals that she prepared for him and whoever else was present at meal time. They were never blessed with children of their own. However, she loved and was loved by many of the children that were a part of her life. They include Margret Ann (Schulke) Halverson whom the Schacht Sisters consider a sister and Bentley Kovacs whom she and Dave loved as their own along with their 14 nieces and nephews. Carol and David attended West Valley Missionary Church. Carol was active in various ministries of the church; especially in the leadership of women's ministries. Even though she suffered for several years with a debilitating disease (MS), she was tireless with working in those ministries of the church and was appreciated greatly for her creative abilities and generous heart. Carol was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her sisters Alice Mae Schacht (Mr. Erik G. Carlson) of Bremerton, WA and Linda L. Schacht of Alpena, SD and numerous relatives and friends including Laureen (Bentley's Mom) and Laura Morgan. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Carol's honor may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, American Cancer Society or West Valley Missionary Church c/o Keith & Keith Funeral Home, 902 W.
