Mr. Matthews was born June 18, 1933, in Florence County, son of the late Markle Emanuel Matthews and Edith Feagin Matthews. He was a retired Letter Carrier for the Lake City Post Office and a longtime member of the Lake City Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he was also a former Sunday School Teacher. Mr. Matthews was a longtime member of the Lake City Masonic Lodge # 193 and a Shriner. He was an avid fisherman and always knew how to catch fish. Mr. Matthews' hobbies included flower gardening and maintaining the Church's atrium as his health allowed. He was a faithful and devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Carol was also a man who loved his animals and pets. Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by a son, Carol William "Will" Matthews, Jr.
