Soon after birth she was baptized in the Evangelical Lutheran Church. She attended the schools in Maxfield Township. After attending Classes of Instruction, at the age of 14 she was confirmed at Maxfield by the Reverend Paul Bredow. Her parents having died, Caroline supported herself for a time by doing housework. Soon after birth she was baptized in the Evangelical Lutheran Church. She attended the schools in Maxfield Township. After attending Classes of Instruction, at the age of 14 she was confirmed at Maxfield by the Reverend Paul Bredow. Her parents having died, Caroline supported herself for a time by doing housework. On April 4, 1882 she was united in marriage lo Carl Guritz by the Pastor Bredow. Seven children were born to this union, four sons and three daughters. Her parents, husband and brothers Fred, Henry, Will and John proceeded her to the grave. For a time, Mrs. Caroline Guritz made her home with her sons, Henry and William both of this place. On Thursday, December 16, 1937 near noon, she passed to her eternal reward at the County Home near West Union. She leaves to mourn her children: Fred Guritz of Rochester, Minnesota, William Guritz of Maynard, Reika Guritz of Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, Minnie Allen of Mill Hall, Pennsylvania, Henry Guritz of Maynard, Martin Guritz of Oelwein and Anna Welch also of Pennsylvania; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Schmidt of Denver, Iowa besides a number of other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held from the Lutheran Church on Sunday afternoon. Mrs. A. Schlegel and the quartette consisting of Mrs. Ray Wolfe, Mrs. Catharine Wegner, Arvid Odekirk and Gerald Warnke sang. Interment was made at Long Grove Cemetery. --------------------- Note: In a Hannan family group sheet someone had her listed as Lena Borchers 1858-. Perhaps "Lena" was a nickname for Caroline? This researcher is assuming the obit is correct with the maiden name Borges.
