| Description | : | Caroline Dunnigan (referred to as Caroline Holden in more than one child's death certificates rather than Dobson or Dunnigan) was originally a slave owned by the Dunnigan family. She was bought by William Polk Dobson and married Lewis Dobson who appears to be an illegitimate offspring of Wm Polk D., who continued as a slave on the Dobson plantation. They had a total of 8 children born into slavery until emancipated at the conclusion of the Civil War. The family first shows up in the 1870 US Census. |
