Read More	Maria "Caroline" Dorothea Carolina Haase Bergmann Mrs. Maria Dorothea Carolina Bergmann, of Douglas township, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ida Buhrow, Saturday, March 12, at 7:45 p.m., after an illness of several months. After a funeral service in St. John's Evangelical church, of Douglas township, of which she was a member, the interment took place in the cemetery of said church. Mrs. Bergmann was born on the 11th of October 1856 in Wendenborstel, Hanover, Germany. Her parents were, Christ F. Haase and Louise Haase, nee Brase. November the 13th she was baptized in the Lutheran church of her birthplace. When she was eleven years old her parents immigrated to America and lived in Beecher, Ill., one year. In 1868 they moved to Iowa, Bremer county. Carolina, the young maid, was hired out to work on a farm near the Maxfield church. She was enabled to attend the religious instructions of the Rev. A. Hafenbrach who confirmed her on the 29th of May 1870. In 1872, January 14th, she was united in holy wedlock with Fred Bergmann. Of this union eleven children were born, three boys who died in infancy and eight daughters who survive their mother. In 1905 the Bergmanns retired from their farm and made Tripoli their home. When the husband passed away in 1907, Mrs. Bergmann made her home with her youngest daughter, Mrs. Buhrow and when they moved from Tripoli onto a farm in Douglas township, she went with them. About a year ago she began to fail in health and four months ago she became so weak she had to stay in the house. Three weeks ago she took to her bed. The physician diagnosed her case as cancer and gave no hopes of her recovery from her last illness, which she bore with remarkable patience and fortitude. Her children and grandchildren and friends did all they could for her. Saturday the 12th she became so weak that she could hardly talk. But bidding all to her bedside she took farewell from them with a motherly look of love and interest. Death came very peaceably. She attained the age of 75 years, five months and one day. She is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Wilhelmine Buls, Mrs. Carolina Westendorf, Mrs. Emma Boeckmann, Mrs. Louise Joens, Mrs. Maria Brase, Mrs. Sophia Kruse, Mrs. Anna Bahlmann, Mrs. Ida Buhrow, thirty-four grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Henry Biermann. Mrs. Bergmann was a devoted wife to her husband, a mother that lived for her children, a kind and helping neighbor and friend, an honest, pious Christian, who in her church and through the church took an active interest in the upbuilding of the Kingdom. Her death is felt as a loss by all who knew her, but our loss is her gain. Of her the sorrowing children can truly say: "Sleeping sweetly, mother in your grave your soul has found a place among the angels gathered 'round God's holy throne of grace. God wanted you at home with Him and you obeyed His call. We all loved you, but He loved you best of all. The light, the love, the light of home which we no longer know is gone forever since you died, in grief we're bending low. We miss your kind and willing hand, your fond and earnest care; the home is dark and dreary now for mother is not there. Oh mother, dear departed one once full of service sweet, we miss you but tis joy to know you walk the golden street; we miss your form, your voice, your face, your bright and happy smile; thank God, 'tis but a little while and we'll meet at that throne of grace."
