Death resulted from complications of arthritis. Short services were held at 1:30 p.m. from the John Kapfenstein home in Java, after which services were held at the St. Paul's Lutheran church, with the Reverend George Kirchdoerfer officiating. Caroline Kurle nee Hafner was born January 02, 1868, in Kassel, South Russia, and a few days later was baptized, In 1882 she was confirmed. On June 20, 1889, she was united in marriage to Christian Kurle at Bergdorf, Russia, and this union was blessed with nine children. In 1907, the family came to America, settling on a farm five miles northwest of Java, where they resided until March 1941. The deceased was stricken with arthritis last October and she was confined to her bed from then on as her physical strength began to fail rapidly. A weak heart and dropsy set in during the last months. On March 18, 1941, she and her husband entered the Lutheran Home at Eureka. Last week her condition became critical and on Wednesday death relieved her of her suffering. She was 73 years, five months and 28 days old. She is survived by her husband, Christian Sr.; four daughters, Mrs. Bert Reynolds, Browns Valley, Minnesota, Eva (William) Evers, Aberdeen, Bertha (Philip) Fischer, Wheaton, Minnesota, and Martha (John) Kapfenstein, Java; four sons, Christ Jr., of three miles northwest of Java, Adolph, of two miles southwest of Java, and Rudolph and Robert, on the home place; 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild. One daughter, Caroline, preceded her in death in April 1932.
