Read More	Death Takes Mrs. Clayton Death came last Friday, June 17, at College Hospital in Des Moines, to Mrs. Carrie Clayton, a long-time resident of this community, who was born seven years before Waukee was incorporated into a town. Her home was 810 6th Street, where her son and daughter, Don and Ferne, also make their home. Mrs. Carrie Clayton was one of the last of our rugged individualists in this community, who had a taste of the frontier. She lived during the birth and development of the machine age and the space age. The following is her obituary: Caroline Graham was born March 18, 1871, two miles southeast of Waukee, on what is now the John Carter farm. She spent her childhood and girlhood here and taught school in Waukee and the locality. She became a member of the Waukee Christian Church to which she was always very loyal even when circumstances deemed it necessary in another locality to attend the church of another denomination. Upon her going to the vicinity of Van Meter to teach, she met Owen Wesley Clayton, whom she married in 1900. In 1917, the family returned to the Waukee locality, where they have resided since. Her husband passed away in September, 1949. She leaves to mourn a son, Donald G., and a daughter, Ferne E., as well as a grandson, Jimmy D., and his wife, Beth. From her original large family, there are also three sisters and one brother who are still living.
