Which one applies to Caroline needs clarification. --------- "The Fairfield Ledger" Friday, November 12, 1902 Page 3, Column 5 Death of Mrs. Joseph RICKSHER Mrs. Joseph RICKSHER died at her home in this city Thursday. She had been ill for perhaps three months, but it was not until a few weeks ago that her condition was really considered alarming. On the 2d inst. a surgical operation was resorted to as the only means for preserving her life, but she never recovered from it. Mrs. RICKSHER's maiden name was Carolina Matilda CLINE, and she was born at Petersburg, O., December 20th, 1848. She came to Iowa when a child of eight years, and made her home at Centerville for many years. She was married there to Richard CARPENTER, who died six years later. One child by this marriage survives the parents, Mrs. J. H. GIBSON of Terre Haute, Ind. September 18th, 1878, in this city, Mrs. CARPENTER was married to Joseph RICKSHER. Four sons were the result of this union, Charles, William H., Frank and Theodore, all of whom are yet at home. Few women have lived a better or more helpful life than Mrs. RICKSHER. For many years she had been a faithful and consistent member of the Congregational church of this city and was active in all its good works, but her usefulness and helpfulness were limited by neither social nor church lines. She was both kindly and charitable, her sympathies were easily enlisted in any good cause and her energy and activity always accompanied it. More than one home has been saddened by the passing away of this good woman and more than the usual measure of sympathy will go out to the sorrowing husband and family. Funeral services were held at the family residence on South Main street Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. H. O. Spelman. They were largely attended. A profusion of flowers adorned the casket, a very beautiful piece being the gift of individual members of the Jefferson club. The remains were borne to the grave by the four sons. Among those from abroad present at the funeral were Mrs. Mary J. Denz, Ft. Madison; Miss Annie Ricksher, Chicago; Mrs. M. C. Slagle, Centerville, and Mrs. J. H. GIBSON, Terre Haute, Ind.
