Caroline Fischer was born on October 5, 1923 to Lawrence & Natalie (Pokornoski) Fischer near Lidgerwood, ND. She worked for Dr. Borchardt in Lidgerwood and later for Ida Bisek Prokop Lee making frames for her prairie pictures. Caroline married Paul Arth on October 5, 1944 in Lidgerwood. They lived north of Lidgerwood, then moved to a farm north of Cayuga, ND. Sixteen years later they moved to a farm north of Geneseo, ND. After retiring from farming they moved to Gwinner, ND. Paul died in 1977. Caroline then moved to Milnor, ND. In 1990 she moved back to Lidgerwood. In 2003 she lived with her youngest daughter, Denise in Ada, MN. Later she moved to Miller, SD to spend the summer with her oldest daughter, Mary. After she developed kidney failure she lived with her daughters Barb & Margo and did home dialysis. After a brief stay at Four Season's Manor in Forman, ND she moved to Bethany Towers in Fargo, ND to facilitate taking home dialysis treatment. Caroline enjoyed cooking large family dinners for all holidays. While on the farm she milked cows, raised chickens for eggs and had a large garden. She was active in Christian Mothers and often prayed the rosary and attended daily mass. Grateful for having shared in her life are four sons, Lawrence Arth, Francis Arth, Michael Arth, and Thomas Arth; five daughters, Mary Christopherson, Marguerite Fauss, Barbara Melroe, Michele Gilbertson, and Denise Arth; a sister, Shirley Demarais, 22 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Paul, sister, Patricia Ciesynski, a brother-in-law, Jerome Ciesynski and daughter-in-law, Joan (Waldera) Arth.
