Description	:	Mrs. Caroline Hildebrand died at the home of her son, William Hildebrand, in Sherman Township, on Sunday evening, June 25, 1899, at the age of sixty-seven years, eight months and one day. Mother Hildebrand had been a great sufferer for about two years and death seemed a sweet release to her when it came at the close of the bright Sabbath day, and she closed her eyes in that sweet sleep which knows no more a wakening to the troubles and pains of this life. Mrs. Hildebrand's maiden name was Caroline Schuman, and was born at Roden, Germany, October 24, 1831. She was married to Christian Hildebrand on the 20th day of October 1858, her husband dying many years ago in Germany. Three children were given them, viz: One daughter, now living in Germany, Johanna, now Mrs. Louis Gearhart of Sherman Township and William, with whom she has made her home for years. She came to America in June 1882, in company with her son William, and her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Gearhart and has lived in this county ever since. Four sisters survive her, one of whom is Mrs. Christian Herbold of this city. The funeral was held at Sugar Grove Church in Sherman Township Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. B. G. After a lingering sickness of about two years, her soul took its flight to a better land on the other side, just at the close of day as the sun sank down in the west. Thus another mother was taken from our midst at the age of 67 years, 8 months and 1 day. Caroline Schuman was born at Roden, Germany, October 24, 1831. On the twentieth day of October, 1856, she was married to Christian Hildebrand, who died after a number of years in Germany. Three children were given to them, Lena, who is married and lives in Germany; Johanna, who is now Mrs. Louis Gearhart, of Sherman township; and William, at whose home she has lived many years. In June, 1882, Mrs. Hildebrand and son, and Mr. and Mrs. Gearhart came to this country. Four sisters survive her: Mrs. Christina Herbold, of Newton; Mrs. Peter Allar, of Muscatine; Mrs. Henry Iske, of Omaha, Neb.; and Mrs. Engleman of Germnay. There are also fourteen grand-children to mourn her loss. During her sickness she was a great sufferer and all was done that loving hands could do; but He that careth for all knoweth best and her suffering is ended.
