Brabbs officiated and was assisted by Dr. Athey. My faith Looks Up to Thee and Blessed Assurance were sung by Jean Brabbs, Lucile Covault, Frank Seibert and Robert Artist. Vera Newman was the pianist. Casket bearers were Franklin Benton, William D. Benton, Max Benton, Graydon Andersen, Merle Maxwell, and Virgil Benton. Interment was made in Pleasant Hill cemetery. Benton, aged resident of this county, passed away at the Guthrie County hospital September 30, 1952 at 3:10 a.m., after a brief illness. She had reached the age of 84 years, 8 months and 22 days. She fell last February, fracturing her knee and has been a semi-invalid since then. She was born January 7, 1868 at Camp Point, Ill., and moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Hocamp, to Audubon county, Iowa, when a small child. On March 8, 1894, she was united in marriage to Nathaniel Benton. He preceded her in death on December 6, 1951. To this union were born eight children, Mrs. Eva Maxwell, Guthrie Center; Earl, Audubon; Gerald, Coon Rapids; Mrs. Martha Cahail, Adair; Clarence Benton, Guthrie Center; Mrs. Esther Spangler, Adair. Two children, Grace and Ralph preceded her in death in infancy. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Tibben, Exira; Mrs. Hannah Strickland, Atlantic; and Mrs. Edna Nelson of Woonsocket, S.D. One brother, Albert Hocamp, in California; a step sister, Mrs. Carrie Stillian, Creston; one step brother, Marion Rumelhart, Exira, and many other relatives and friends. Three sisters and a brother preceded her in death. She united with the Methodist church at Bowman Chapel many years ago, and has been a faithful Christian since that time.
