Description	:	Carolyn (Sivesind) Smith, 73, of Center formerly of Halliday, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015 surrounded by family. Services will be held at 11:00 AM CDT on Tuesday, May 25, 2015 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Halliday with Pastor Rachel Simonsen officiating. Burial will follow at the Halliday City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CDT on Monday at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah. Carolyn was born on May 31, 1941 in Miller, SD to Theodore and Wilda Arbogast. She was raised in Miller and graduated from Miller High School. Carolyn moved to Bismarck, ND where she received a degree in accounting from the Interstate Business College. On March 16, 1963 she was united in marriage to Dale Sivesind in Aberdeen, SD. They made their home in Halliday, ND. Dale and Carolyn were married 20 years until Dale’s death on March 30, 1983. Carolyn was elected charter president of the Halliday Mrs. Jaycees in July of 1968 and later was elected Regional vice president of the Mrs. Jaycees. Carolyn and her husband Dale were very active in the Jaycees for many years. She was a member of the Halliday Saddle Club, Booster Club, Civic Club, St Paul’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School for several years, and a member of the Halliday Red Hats. She was employed at the Halliday Public School as Secretary and Business Manager for 34 years until her retirement on July 1, 2007. At the school she was active in many student activities. Carolyn was a cheerleader advisor for several years and enjoyed being around the students. On June 17, 1992 she married Russell Smith of Minot at Lewistown, MT and they made their home in Halliday, ND. Her husband Russ passed away after a long illness on January 6, 2006. Carolyn enjoyed taking her grandchildren hunting and fishing. She loved the outdoors. Carolyn enjoyed bowling, sewing crafts, reading, hunting, fishing, and spending time at the lake cabin during the summer. She also enjoyed working outside with her flowers and doing yard work. She was always willing to give a helping hand wherever needed. She is survived by her two sons; Sheldon (Franciska) Sivesind, Camano Island, WA and CJ (Carla) Sivesind, Center, ND; stepsons, Mike (Kristie) Smith, Minot, ND, Casey (Jodi) Smith, Fargo, ND; Stepdaughters, Cherie (Joe) Erdman, Pennellville, NY, Jana Smith, Denver, CO, Kelly Larsen (Chris Petty), Philadelphia, PA, and Maggie (Wayne) Ferris, Papua, New Guinea; grandchildren, Sara Lesmeister, John Rutledge, Jennifer Rutledge, Jenea (Shawn) Smith, Joshua Hartwig, Jerome Bakken, Jennifer Bakken, Jessica Sivesind, Amy Klobus, Katie DeAnthony, Wyatt Smith, Erin Larsen, Colin (June) Larsen, Ellen (Nate) Shaffer, Andrew (Margie) Ferris, Zachary Ferris, and Ethan Smith; great-grandchildren, Aaron Lesmeister, Adduces Rutledge, Rosemary Smith, Jayden Rutledge, Jake Rutledge, Madelin Bakken, Maddox DeAnthony, Madisen Larsen, Jazmyn Larsen, Nate Shaffer, Jubilee Ferris, Caiden Shaffer, and August Ferris; her mother; Wilda Tonner, Glenwood, IA; brothers, Doyle (Donna) Arbogast, Glenwood, IA and Galen (Pam) Arbogast, Lawrence, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, Theodore Arborgast; stepfather, Bud Tonner; and husbands, Dale Sivesind and Russell Smith.
