TREVETT -- Carolyn Lewis Eustis, 93, of Barters Island, Boothbay, died Oct. 19, 2006, at St. Andrew's Gregory Wing in Boothbay Harbor. She was born in Trevett, Sept. 30 1913, the daughter of Eugene and Susie Dunton Lewis and was one of 11 children. She lived all her life in Trevett and was so proud to have graduated from Boothbay High School in 1929. She remembers walking to school from Barters Island many days in snow and rain. Carolyn worked at Senter's Clothing Store in Boothbay Harbor for 25 years and later worked for Cliff Reny, who changed the name of the store to The Harbor Shop. In 1961 she purchased The Harbor Shop from Mr. Reny and owned and operated it for 15 years. Her sister Cora Lowery worked with her for many years. She enjoyed all that came to the store and was very generous at Christmas time to families that were in need of clothing. She loved to read, knit, make afghans, make quilts with her sisters and going for rides with her stepdaughter, Carolyn. She loved the visits with her grandchildren and watching her great-grandchildren grow. Carolyn was a life-time member of Crescent Chapter No. 54, Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Barters Island Community Hall Association, and Barters Island Baptist Church for many years. She was predeceased by her husband, James F. Eustis; four brothers, Joel, Sidney, Willard and Austin Lewis; and a sister, Katherine Andrews. Survivors include her son, Bruce M. Lewis and his wife Georgette A. of Trevett; granddaughter Lori A. Mitchell and her husband Win of Boothbay; grandson Brian M. Lewis and wife Amy B. of Trevett; great-grandsons Cody L. and Riley R. Mitchell of Boothbay; great-granddaughters Emily B. and Julia A. Lewis of Trevett; stepdaughters Carolyn Erskine of Wiscasset and Peggy Vester of Indiana; sisters Florence Barter of Barters Island, Cora Lowery of Boothbay Harbor, and Priscilla Holmes of Boothbay Harbor; brothers Vincent Lewis and his wife Isabelle of Barters Island, and Vernon Lewis of Barters Island; cousin Albert Nelson of South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. The last few months of her life she was taken care of by all the angels at the St. Andrew's Gregory Wing in Boothbay Harbor. Carolyn would call all her caregivers at the village her angels, and she would always reach out for a hug and a smile each day. Carolyn's family want to thank each and every one for taking wonderful care of her while she was a patient there. A graveside service will be held at the Lewis Cemetery on Barters Island, Trevett on Tuesday Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in her memory to: St. Andrew's Village Gregory Wing 145 Emery Lane Boothbay Harbor, Maine 04538 Arrangements are entrusted to Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Boothbay.
