Cole, of this city. Deceased was born Dec. 10, 1865, in Mayfield township, DeKalb county, Illinois. She was married February 8, 1882, in Hampshire, Kane county, Illinois. to E. E. Cole. They then moved to Iowa and began housekeeping in Iowa Falls, where they remained about a year; then moved to Sycamore, Illinois, where they resided five and one-half years, then went to Shabona, Illinois and stayed one year. Mr. Cole then went into the creamery business at Pawpaw and remained for about two years. From this place they came out to Clay county, Iowa, and purchased a farm north of Spencer on which they lived four years, and moved back to Illinois and purchased a creamery at Wapello, which after a short time was burned down. They then went into the grocery business at Waynesville, in which they were engaged for about four years. After this they returned to Spencer and moved out on their farm as soon as they could get possession, where they lived until last winter when they moved into their present home on west Second Street. To them were born four sons and three daughters, whose names are as follows: Bessie B., born April 13, 1884; Harry D., July 21, 1885; Daniel E. January 28, 1890; Louisa A. March 7, 1892; Roland M. January 31, 1897; Donald K. January 16, 1900; Carrie B. Helen, June 7, 1901. They are all living. Besides these children and her husband, she leaves a father and a mothers, two sisters and one brother and a wide circle of friends who mourn her loss. About nine years ago deceased became a member of the M. E. church. Three years later she changed her membership to the Christian church of which she remained an honored and consistent member until her death when she gave her dying testimony to the preciousness of her Savior, who she was going to meet. The funeral services were held Sunday, June 16th at the Christain church which was beautifully and profusely decorated with flowers. The service was conducted by Rev. Gregory of Everly, who spoke most touchingly from the subject "The Need of Sympathy". The remains were then viewed by her friends, a number of whom could not gain admittance to the services from lack of room after which they were followed to Riverside Cemetery and laid to rest. The members of her family and her physician were in constant attendance at her bed-side and rendered every service which could possibly lesson her sufferings in the last hours, the end coming peacefully and quietly. Her dying words given to each of her dear ones individually was an exhortation to so live that they might meet her and her Savior in heaven when their summons came to depart from this world. She passed away in the blessed assurance that she was going to meet her reward, which is promised to the faithful. Her life was a beautiful example of Christian virtues fragrant with loving deeds. It could be truthfully said of her. "None knew her but to love her, None named her but to praise." Being of a cheerful, buoyant disposition, entertaining and warm-hearted with ready sympathy for their's burdens, uncomplaining of her own, her loss will be greatly felt by her neighbors and friends everywhere. Her life is worthy of imitiation by all. The hearts of the whole community go out in sympathy toward the afflicted family. May the God at all grace comfort the hearts of her companion, children, and family and enable them to meet their loved ones in that land where sorrow is unknown. Note: Daughter Lola Cole Mann's final resting place has not been located. She was born on March 7, 1892 and died in August 1976.
