The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, at the African Methodist Episcopal church, the Rev. E. J. Malone officiating. Interment will be in the Highland cemetery. Belle Holland was born in Iola in 1874, and has spent her entire life here. She attended the Iola schools until the duties of a widowed mother required her to take her place in the household routine of her home. Several years ago, before her health failed, she was a stewardess in the A.M.E. church and entered actively into all of its social and religious work. The mother of the subject of this sketch, was the late Queen Victoria Smith Carter, reared as a slave in an old southern family leaving her daughter a cultural legacy. Belle was exceptionally well educated and exhibited her religious convictions in kindness and fidelity to her friends, many of whom are of the white race. Surviving are her half brother, Edward Smith; niece, Millicent Belle Smith, and nephew, Edward Norman Smith, all of Iola; sisters, Mrs Lila Boyd, Oklahoma City, and Ada Holland, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Independence relatives are Mrs Webster and children, Alonzo, Eugene, and Pearl.
