She later opened her own business and had a millinery and dress-making store which she operated for several years. She married Augustus W. Lee, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Lee, in 1898 in Volga City. She later opened her own business and had a millinery and dress-making store which she operated for several years. She married Augustus W. Lee, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Lee, in 1898 in Volga City. Mr. Lee was a jeweler at that place. He and his brother, Walter, established the Lee Brothers jewelry and Optical Store in 1906. They were in business more than 40 years. He was also postmaster in Britt for several years. Carrie and her family were active in the Congregational Church in Britt. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Kings Daughters, and the Ruth Circle of the Congregational Church. Her interests centered not only in her home but also with those around her in times of need and distress (according to her obituary). Her husband died on July 30, 1949. She went to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Russell (Imogene) Lemley in Cedar Rapids. She died there at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 26 days. She was survived by her daughter and two sons: Alpheous Tenney Lee of Pueblo, Colorado, and Dr. John R. Lee at Guthrie Center, Iowa. She also left two daughters-in-law; three grandsons, Jack, Jim and John; two sisters: Mrs. Blanch White and Mrs. Thomas Conboy, both of Volga City, and other relatives.
