Description	:	Carrie Elizabeth Brink was born July 9, 1920, on the farm in Thurston County to Herb and Bessie (Bacon) Brink. After graduating from grade 12 at Parks Country School, Carrie worked as domestic help and waitress. She attended Wayne State College, where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught two years at country school in Burt County. During that time, she met Elwin Erickson at a school roller skating party for her pupils, when he rolled up and said, "May I have this skate, Miss Brink?" They were married December 24, 1942. Carrie accompanied El to Georgia, Idaho and California army... Read More	Carrie Elizabeth Brink was born July 9, 1920, on the farm in Thurston County to Herb and Bessie (Bacon) Brink. After graduating from grade 12 at Parks Country School, Carrie worked as domestic help and waitress. She attended Wayne State College, where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught two years at country school in Burt County. During that time, she met Elwin Erickson at a school roller skating party for her pupils, when he rolled up and said, "May I have this skate, Miss Brink?" They were married December 24, 1942. Carrie accompanied El to Georgia, Idaho and California army bases, until his service during World War II took him overseas. When he returned, they lived on the family farm for about six years before moving to Lyons. Carrie took great pride in being a mother to their three children and always welcomed their friends. Carrie also worked as a waitress at the Logan Valley Café in Lyons. She worked at Nellie's Café in Minburn, Iowa, where the family lived for three years before returning to Lyons in 1961. Carrie was a 4-H leader and sewed much of the clothing for the family. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the ladies Presbyterian circle, and was a charter member of the Lyons VFW Auxiliary for 64 years. Carrie has resided at Logan Valley Manor since 2007. She enjoyed being Grammie, aunt, cousin and friend. She taught abundantly by her example about how to live. She was preceded in death by husband, Elwin in 2001; brothers, Merlin, Verle and Kenneth Brink; sister-in-law, Norita Brink; brothers-in-law, Francis Larson, Raymond Erickson, Harold Erickson and Andy Necas. Survivors include her son, Doug Erickson of Madison, WI; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Tom Thomas of Seabrook, NH, Jane and John Schaefer of Seward, NE; five grandchildren, Rhonda (Mike) Syvinski, Debi (Dan) Smith, Tracy Leifert (fiancé, Travis Tonniges), Roxy Erickson, Scott (Ellie) Sorensen; ten great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Necas of Grand Island, NE; sisters-in-law, Thelma Brink of Lyons, Dorothy Larson of Oakland, Helen Erickson of Winthrop Harbor, IL; very special cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. FUNERAL SERVICE: Monday, June 18, 2012, 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lyons, Nebraska VISITATION: Sunday, June 17, 2012, 5 - 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends at Pelan Funeral Home in Lyons. Visitation will also be held Monday at the church one hour prior to the service.
