Read More	Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home YAKIMA - Carrie Juanita "Nita" Crosier, 99, a longtime Wapato and Yakima resident, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2009, at Covenant House Adult Home in Yakima. Nita was born May 23, 1910, in Amherst, Nebraska. She was the first child born to Navin and Mabel (Harmoney) Fenstermacher. She spent most of her childhood in Amherst, NE, where she completed the eighth grade at age twelve. At age six she was invited to recite at many special events. She could do this we are sure, because she was blessed with a great memory. This ability to remember experiences in great detail continued throughout her life. She had many interesting stories to tell. Nita developed the art of participating in three different conversations at the same time! What a family gathering it was when several of her Nebraska relatives got together. Her body failed her, but not her memory. Her family moved to Sumas, WA in 1922. During her teen years she worked various jobs including a restaurant, a dairy, on a farm picking hops and prunes, and babysitting. On June 4, 1928, Nita married her very special partner in life, Norman Crosier in Chehalis. Their first home was in a tent at Cosmos where Norm was working on the White Pass Hwy. From 1929-1948, they made their home in Lynden where they operated a dairy and grew row crops. Their home at first was a two room house with no running water and an outdoor bathroom. During these years they added six children to their family, eventually adding on two rooms to their home. They moved to Wapato in 1948, investing in an orchard where they grew peaches and apricots. They supplemented their income by furnishing eight local stores with fresh eggs. Nita spent many hours candeling and packaging the eggs. Although a proficient cook and homemaker, she much preferred doing the farm work alongside Dad. In retirement they moved to Union Gap and her commitment to family was extraordinary. She prepared many meals for large family gatherings. They gave much free labor to their children, especially involving farming ventures. Over the years they babysat many of their grandchildren and great grandchildren. They had a special knack for helping them feel special. Her hobbies were very special to her. She spent many hours crocheting, knitting, and quilting. Many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren have something she personally made. She also loved her flower gardens. Her favorites were pansies and roses. Nita was active in Grange for 65 years - the Ten Mile Grange in Lynden and Ashue Grange in Wapato. She received her 65 year membership pin last year at age 98. She also was a 4-H Leader for many years. Our Mom moved to Sun Tower Retirement Home in 2005 at age 95. Being a very social person it rejuvenated her life. She maintained her own apartment and took part in many activities. Her four friends and she would meet at 4 p.m. in the dining hall even though dinner wasn't served until 5, as they wanted to talk! She will be dearly missed by her entire family. Nita is survived by a son, Ellwood (Arla) Crosier of Yakima; three daughters, Shirley Owen of Union Gap, Kaylene (Brad) Boardman of Maple Valley, and Erma Rae (Jim) Early of East Wenatchee; a sister, Lucille Maul of Kearney, Nebraska and a brother, Harley Ray (Gladys) Selmer of Snohomish; 24 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and 28 great great grandchildren, making a total of 100. Nita was preceded in death by her parents, Navin and Mabel Fenstermacher; her husband, Norman P. Crosier on October 21, 1995, two daughters, Marna Shepard and Verna Mae O'Dell; a sister, Phyllis Shattuck, and three brothers, Glen and John Fenstermacher and Harland Selmer. Viewing will be from noon until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2009, at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. Burial will follow at West Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Yakima Regional Hospice or to the Sun Towers, in care of Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.
