Read More	CARRIE ‘BABE' SPERRY - Sunday - August 2, 1998 Chelan - Carrie "Babe" Sperry was born to Henry and Louise Akers on Oct. 9, 1916, in Wayne County, W.Va. Babe was one of 11 children. During Babe's life she had three children, Mollie Jean Winters, living in Ironton, Ohio; Louis Peck, address unknown; and Robert W. Sperry, living in Las Vegas, Nev. Babe is also survived by brothers J.B. Akers and Robert W. Akers, both of Wenatchee. She had six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In 1949 after making a trip from Ohio out West to Wenatchee to visit relatives, husband Howard Sperry (deceased 1984) fell in love with the country and a year later moved the family to Wenatchee. Babe had fond memories, as do the rest of the family of time spent "up on the hill" with relatives in Wenatchee. The family shared laughter and love, and who knew when the next prank would be pulled on whom? The brothers and sisters and their partners were always playing jokes on each other. Babe told of the time sister Ruby tricked her husband Frank to think they'd had a big blizzard. After the two of them argued over how much snow they were going to get (Frank saying a little, and Ruby sure of a lot), Frank fell asleep in his chair. Ruby went outside and shoveled the existing snow up past the window. Then she came inside and shook Frank awake, excitedly pointing to the window and shouted, "Look, we had a blizzard!" J.B. and Robert could never convince Babe of her birth year. J.B. said the proof is in the family Bible. Babe would say, "No, I ought to know when I was born!" And so went the love and affection of brothers and sisters. After Howard died, Babe continued to live in Chelan. She became very active in golf and enjoyed countless hours on the Chelan Golf Course with her special friends, Vi Horton, Ann Hargis, Mary Theubet and Yvonne Weekes. Babe had a weakness for golf caps and treasured each new one she got. She loved the organ and played for her own enjoyment. In later years when Babe was not able to drive, sister-in-law Pearl (Robert's wife) would pick her up each Sunday for dinner at their house. In 1992 as the Alzheimer's disease progressed, Babe moved to Ohio, where daughter Mollie Jean oversaw her care until July 5, 1998, when Alzheimer's struck its final blow. If you met Babe walking down the street, she'd greet you with kind words and a smile, paying special kindness to the children. Babe is remembered for her love of life, trusting kind nature and a smile that would brighten your day. We miss you, Babe ... until we meet again. Private burial will be at Fraternal Cemetery, Chelan.
