Description	:	Carrol Marian Pladsen Kiesau was born Dec. 26, 1917, on the LaFayette Township, rural Harpers Ferry farm of her parents, Theodore and Oline (Hunstad) Pladsen. She was baptized and confirmed at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church. She attended rural Allamakee County elementary schools before graduating from Waterville High School in 1935. While in school she played on their state-qualifying basketball team. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls to earn her teaching certificate. Carrol taught at several rural Allamakee County schools as well as in Waukon, Postville, and Clear Lake. She continued taking classes throughout her life; at age 55 she earned a bachelors degree in education from Upper Iowa University in Fayette.
