Emeny was killed early Sunday morning in an automobile accident which occurred about two miles north of the Training School. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at his late home at Maple Park Farm on South Washington Street conducted by Rev. Dr. Haughton, Episcopal Rector of Waterloo assisted by Rev. W.E. Stanley of Jessup, former Pastor of the Eldora Baptist Church. After the funeral services the body was taken to the Eldora Cemetery where services in charge of the American Legion were held and the remains were placed in the temporary vault awaiting the coming of his father, Frank W. Crockett of Altadena, California. Carroll Edwin Crockett was born August 17, 1896 in Eldora, Iowa. He graduated from the Eldora High School with the Class of 1917. He also had a number of years of military training at Shattuck School, Faribault, Minnesota. During his residence at Shattuck he was confirmed in the Episcopal Church on April 14, 1912. He later took a course at Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. Carroll was always active in athletics especially in football and was a member of the football team at each school which he attended. Soon after the United States entered the World War he made application for the first Officers Training Camp, but not being called at that time he decided to enlist in the Aviation Branch of the service. Failing to pass in mathematics, he enlisted as a Private in the United States Marine Corps on July 1, 1918 and received his training at the Marine Barracks at Paris Island, South Carolina and Quantico, Virginia. On the 13th of September 1918 he sailed for France with the 18th Regiment of Marines on the transport, Van Steuben. He served in France with his regiment until July 1919 when they returned to the United States July 13 on the Imperator. On July 31, 1919 he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps at Quantico, Virginia. Since his return home and up to the time of his death he assisted his brother, Gilman Wisner in his office at Eldora. He was active in the American Legion affairs and was Treasurer of the Walter Sayer Post of Eldora. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge of this city. Friends and relatives of Carroll who came from a distance to attend his funeral were John C. Crockett of Washington, D.C., Charles Gilman and wife of Dubuque, Edmund Gilman of Hastings, Nebraska, Jay C. Gilman of LeMars, Mrs. E.E. Thompson of Cedar Rapids and Frank W. Crockett of Altadena, California.
