He was widely known as an exceptionally kind-hearted, hard-working man and was deeply loved by his family. Read More	Carroll James White, 100, passed away of Covid-19 on June 4, 2020 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center. He was widely known as an exceptionally kind-hearted, hard-working man and was deeply loved by his family. Carroll was born April 10, 1920 to Carroll Bart and Martha Vivian Norman White in Bonaparte, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm and, in addition to farming, worked with his father providing threshing services to other farms with one of the few threshing machines in the area. In 1938, he graduated from Farmington High School and went to work with a local poultry business. On November 22, 1941, Carroll married Edna Eileen Sturgeon in Keokuk, Iowa. They celebrated 71 years of marriage before her passing on December 12, 2012. Barely two weeks after their marriage, Pearl Harbor was attacked. Carroll entered the army in January 1942 and served until August 1945. He was deployed in the Pacific Theater and, achieving the rank of tech sergeant, served with the 41st Infantry Division as a medic. He was among the first troops into Hiroshima after the bombing. Following the war, Carroll entered a management-training program with the Marshall Auto Company, starting in Keokuk, Iowa. In 1948 he was transferred to become the store manager in Ottumwa. He later continued in the auto parts field, working for 29 years with the Sieg Ottumwa Company, where he retired in 1987. Carroll was very active in Cub Scouts for both his son and grandsons. He served as Webelos leader and trainer for several years. He loved to hunt and fish and was a master carpenter and woodworker. The family was always thrilled to receive one of his creations. He was Past Master of Ottumwa Masonic Lodge #16 A.F & A.M. and a member of Clinton Chapter #9, Ottumwa Council #31, Malta Commandery #31. He was also a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3, American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Carroll resided on Marion Street, where he and Edna remodeled and rebuilt 2 houses, from 1949 through 2016, when Carroll moved to Prairie Hills Assisted Living. He is survived by his daughter, Lynne (Jack) Blackwell of Ottumwa; his son Steven (Sonja) White of Potomac, MD; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great- grandson; his sister, Geraldine Boyd of Keokuk; and her daughters, Linda and Jan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a grandson, Steven Blackwell. Limited open visitation for friends will be Saturday, June 6th from 9 a.m. to Noon. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.rfh-ia.com. Private Masonic services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home. For those not able to be inside the funeral home with the family during the service, you may watch the funeral from the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be in Green Glade Cemetery in Farmington with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
