Born Dec. 22, 1911, in Jefferson County, he was the son of Walter and Elsie Shelman Crane. In October 1934, he married Lola Gladyce Williams. She preceded him in death on Nov. 7, 1957. Read More	Carroll Crane Carroll Shelman Crane, 98, of Mount Pleasant died Thursday, March 25, 2010, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mount Pleasant. Born Dec. 22, 1911, in Jefferson County, he was the son of Walter and Elsie Shelman Crane. In October 1934, he married Lola Gladyce Williams. She preceded him in death on Nov. 7, 1957. On Oct. 15, 1962, he married Marie Swan Sloan. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2002. Mr. Crane farmed and raised Angus cattle southwest of Mount Pleasant in the Round Prairie area. He worked for the Iowa Ordnance Plant in Middletown for 20 years. He was on the Henry County Development Board and was a County Supervisor for four years. He was a member of Tri City Baptist Church in Port Charlotte, Fla., and attended Calvary Baptist Church, in Mount Pleasant. He belonged to the Goal Line Club, Coin Club and was an active member of the Republican Party. He also was a volunteer at Midwest Old Threshers for many years. After retiring, he moved to Port Charlotte, Fla., and enjoyed gardening, golfing and volunteering for the Senior Cultural Center. He maintained and grew more than 100 rose plants for the center. He raised experimental roses for Jackson & Perkins. He also was a tour guide for many trips with the Cultural Center for 15 years. He moved back to Mount Pleasant in 2001. Survivors include two sons, Doyle Crane of Carol Stream, Ill., and Wray Sloan of Mount Pleasant; three daughters, Lonna Phelps of Salem, Judith Sloan Cline of Mississippi state and Joyce Sloan Smith of Clarence; 24 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Besides his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, three sons, one granddaughter and one great-grandson. Visitation with family will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. The funeral service for Mr. Crane will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant with the Rev. Timothy Graham and the Rev. Mike Hess officiating. Burial will be in the Lambirth Cemetery southeast of Lockridge. A memorial has been established for Calvary Baptist Church.
