Description	:	Missing In Action during flight over New Guinea on June 7, 1942. Grave marker at the Oakland Cemetery (and Tablets of the Missing at Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines) although his body was never found. Casteel attended Washington College in Maryland where he served on the staff of the school yearbook and newspaper and took part in the men's glee club. First Lieutenant Casteel served with the 5th Air Force, 19th Bomber Squadron, 22nd Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. They were flying from Townsville Australia to Port Moresby New Guinea and encountered bad weather a half hour from their destination. They got separated from the other plane they were flying with and got lost, unable to locate their air field. Finally, running low on fuel the the pilot called for the men to bail out. The crew got mostly split up and had to find their own way through the dense jungle to civilization, the longest taking six weeks to find help. Casteel was never seen again after bailing out. He was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross and a Purple Heart. Since his body was never recovered, Casteel's name is inscribed on the Tablets of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines.
