Description	:	Carson Kjelland, age 87, of Valley City, ND, died Friday, May 14, 2010 at Meritcare Hospital in Fargo, ND. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 19th at Grace Free Lutheran Church in Valley City. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 18th at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday afternoon. Carson Robert Kjelland, the son of Benjamin and Laura (Kreuslich) Kjelland, was born April 9, 1923 on the family farm in Green Township of Barnes County, North Dakota, the third of seven children. Carson grew up on the family farm in Green Township and attended Hobart Rural School and graduated from Green School in 1941. During his high school years and following his graduation, Carson worked for Bob Kjelland, farming. After moving in to Valley City, he worked for Thompson Lumber Company. On April 12, 1946, he enlisted with the US Army at Ft. Snelling, MN. After his discharge from the Army, Carson returned to the Green Township area near Valley City where he began farming which he did until the time of his death. Carson enjoyed visiting with his family and friends, Sunday morning coffee with neighbors, fishing trips, reading books and collecting items of interest. He will always be remembered and loved for his great sense of humor, his ability to tell a good story, and above all his knowledge in life and ability to give good advice. Carson is survived by three brothers, Allan (Dorothy) Kjelland, Moorhead, MN, Arnold Kjelland, Banks, OR and Curtis (Ginger) Kjelland, Mandan, ND; one sister, Betty Bostrom, Valley City, ND; 13 nieces and nephews, David Bostrom, Dennis Bostrom, both Valley City, ND, Larry Kjelland, Moorhead, MN, Michael Kjelland, Alexandria, MN, Judy Jay, Valley City, ND, Mary Sugden, Anchorage, AL, Tom Kjelland, Valley City, ND, Gerald Kjelland, Prescott Valley, AZ, Bob Kjelland, Windsor, CO, Steve Kjelland, Medical Lake, WA, Kenneth Kjelland, Clatskanie, OR, James Kjelland, McMinnville, OR and Diane McMannis, Banks, OR; numerous great nieces and nephews. Carson was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Lawrence and Clayton.
